Frequently Asked Questions
First Time Clients
Please respect our 24 hour cancellation policy: cancellations must be made 24 hours prior to appointment or you will be charged. We do this to respect both the instructors time, as well as our client’s time, so that other clients may book in the time slot if you are not able to make it. If you need to cancel or make changes to your appointment, please login to your Mindbody Account using the link below, or Contact the Studio. Mahalo!
We have a no-refund policy. Please make sure that you are able to attend before purchasing.
Please arrive at least 10 minutes early to fill out a new client form in the office (or fill out the electronic one that was emailed to you when your session was booked). All sessions are approx. 45 minutes.
The studio requires you to wear clean socks if you are joining the group classes. We STRONGLY recommend snug-fitting grip socks and offer Toesox socks for purchase at the studio. Toesox not only provide grip on the bottom, but they separate your toes increasing proper alignment, balance, and better circulation in your feet.
We recommend that you wear fitted workout wear for us to see what you're doing and for you to move without constriction. For women that means 'yoga-wear' - leggings and top are great (try to avoid pants with a zipper or pocket on your low back). For men that means long shorts or pants and a t-shirt or tank. Avoid short/running shorts and wear underwear - you might be doing hip-stretching. Be comfortable! Don't forget your socks!
We provide gym towels and water, but please feel free to bring your own water bottle.
There is plenty of street parking on Monsarrat and surrounding neighborhood streets. Feel free to use this photo as a guide, you may find parking in any of the spots marked green.
Enjoy the neighborhood! Stop by our downstairs neighbor, Morey’s Cafe for breakfast or lunch, Ars Cafe for the perfect coffee or tea, an acai bowl from Diamond Head Cove Health Bar, or a healthy plate lunch and to-go meals from Diamond Head Market before or after your workout.
Covid-19 Response
-
Per the latest government mandates, masks are now optional at Pilates O Ka Lā. Instructors continue to wear masks often, and always when clients do the same. We have Dyson air filters in both studios, and in the Makai studio we are able to open windows which allows for nice trade wind breezes (along with AC of course). We have spaced our equipment more than 6 feet apart and limited capacity for our classes for everyones safety. All equipment and high traffic areas are cleaned with a CDC approved cleaning agent between each client visit. All instructors at the studio have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19. We also ask that our clients limit their interactions between classes to prevent spread.
-
Please use our hand sanitizer or wash your hands upon entering the studio. After your group class you will be responsible for cleaning all the equipment that you use during class. Instructors will clean the equipment for private, duo, and trio clients. Please keep at least 6 feet from other students, staff, and instructors at the studio.
-
Please notify the studio immediately so that we can anonymously notify anybody who you may have interacted with at the studio so they can get tested as well.

Don’t let the equipment intimidate you! It was designed to help guide your movement patterns and support you. Once you learn the ropes it’s incredibly addictive. No one is expected to have any previous Pilates knowledge, we will teach you how to set up your equipment properly for your body, and choose the exercises that are best for you. All fitness levels are welcome! We separate our group classes into beginner, intermediate & advanced levels so that everyone gets the most out of their workout, and Private sessions are customized just for you.

Group Classes
-
If you’re new to Pilates we do strongly encourage you to try at least one private session for a more personalized introduction to the Pilates work. If that’s not an option for you, our group classes are separated into levels. Try our “Fundamentals“ class first, which prepares new students or those new to working out to get started. If you are already comfortable with exercising, try our “Foundational” class which teaches the beginner level Pilates exercises.
-
Once you have a good understanding of all of the beginner level exercises, ask your instructor if they recommend you moving on to the intermediate level. Our advanced class requires thorough knowledge of the beginning and intermediate classical Pilates order and an instructor approval. Please make sure you are approved before you sign up for the advanced class.
-
Sign up on the waitlist. You may have a chance of making it into the class as often times people can cancel due to unforeseen circumstances.
-
If you are signed up for the waitlist and someone cancels their spot, Mindbody will automatically notify you via email when you are moved our of the waitlist. Please be on the lookout for that email or sign up for text alerts on your account.
-
If you are late, please either let your instructor or our studio manager know so we can hold your spot. For our evening classes, the front door will be closed for security purposes. You may enter through our back door and knock to inform the instructor let you in. The back door is located to the left of the front door, at the end of the patio. Please don’t be more than 15 minutes late.
